Executive Creative Director
BBDO Toronto

Ian MacKellar is Executive Creative Director of BBDO Toronto. MacKellar started his career as a writer at Sifton Properties Advertising in his hometown of London, Ontario. There he created memorable work for retailers who sold hickory pipes, puppies and bras (but not in that order). From Sifton, Ian joined Cossette Communication to work on Bell Mobility (selling something new called a cellular phone), McDonald’s, TVOntario and Saturn, Saab and Izuzu. Ian then moved to Roche Macaulay and Partners (then called Geoffrey B. Roche and Partners) where he would create some of his best work for such clients as IKEA, the Royal Ontario Museum, Panasonic, Canadian Business Magazine and Outward Bound. In 1997, Ian joined BBDO as an Associate Creative Director and quickly rose to his current position on the strength of his work for Pepsi, FedEx, 7Up, Jeep, Guinness and Campbell’s.

Over the years, Ian has won over 100 major advertising awards, including Golds at Cannes, The One Show, Communication Arts, Marketing and the Advertising and Design Club of Canada. And yet despite all this, he somehow manages to find the time to race his bicycle competitively as a member of the Cycle4MS Cycling Team and help raise two children: Madison and Callum.
