Missing Matoaka - The True Story of Pocahontas

Missing Matoaka is an alternative audio track to a popular movie made about Pocahontas. It tells the true story of her life, from an Indigenous perspective. The reimagined audio can be played over the original movie on mute.

By retelling Matoaka’s story, harmful stereotypes are confronted head-on and the historical record is set straight.

This project was created in response to the Calls for Justice from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and was presented and published by MUSRAKT Magazine.
